The return of the Missing Equipment Diaries posted 3/11/2012 by Carl Taylor Please find depicted below a picture of a glove lost at Conard High School today (Sunday 3/11/12)
It is a Warrior Adreneline.
Everyone who was at practice today & who owns a pair should check to see if they lost one.
Personally, I had hoped that we could have made it longer into the season before I was forced to report the baleful news that someone lost their equipment- however, this was not to be.
However, even the commencement of missing lax equipment season couldn't dampen the pleasure of being outside in this lovely weather.
I wish to note the passing of an icon of American journalism and another member of the Greatest Generation- Andy Rooney.
Rooney retired from CBS' 60 Minutes October 2, 2011. He died one month later, on November 4, 2011, at age 92.
For all of us who have listened to Rooney's segments on 60 Minutes, he was a relentless and unabashed observer and reporter of the human condition- the good, the bad, the horrible and the absurd. He held his tongue on few issues. Though he regretted several of his more waspish pieces, all of them made the listener think and contemplate.
Rooney always considered himself a writer, as opposed to a broadcaster or a television personality. He started his career while in the U.S. Army as a writer for Stars & Stripes magazine & flew several bombing missions with the Eighth Air Force over Germany.
For those of us who have lived long enough to be considered somewhat cantankerous or even a bit curmudgeonly, Rooney's death certainly leaves a void.
For a sample of a one of his columns from Stars & Stripes, go to http://www.pbs.org/weta/reportingamericaatwar/reporters/rooney/wilhelmshaven.html
I recommend his book "My War". If can be found on the shelf in the biography section of the Noah Webster Library in West Hartford Center.
Look under "Rooney".
Cannons' Lacrosse Academy at Loomis Chaffee School in July, posted 1/28/2012 by Carl Taylor Donate your used equipment to WHYLLL posted 11/12/2009 by bill murphy Have your kids moved on to high school? Or are they just growing so fast they outgrow equipment every year? Please consider donating your used lacrosse equipment to the West Hartford Youth Lacrosse League. Each year the league provides, helmets, defensive sticks, and goalie equipment to all players. We will also provide other equipment as needed to players. The more equipment we have, the more we are able to provide for the younger, newer players to this great game. Sticks, gloves, elbow / shoulder pads, old goals or bounce back devices, and helmets are all accepted. If you have equipment you would like to donate or have any questions, please contact us at whyll@aol.com.
